Who’s got the special sauce?
September 17th, 2009Recently, Whrrl held a contest in search of the best cheeseburger in the nation. Our goal was to hear your stories about your favorite cheeseburger – and why you love it so much. Well, we’re excited to announce that celebrity chef Richard Blais has chosen Ciaran Blumenfeld’s story as the winner!
Ciaran and family hit up no less than five different fast food joints in the Los Angeles area to find the tastiest burger. Her lovely and discerning daughters judged each burger based on flavor, bun, sauce and substance. Their favorite? In and Out’s animal style cheeseburger by a landslide! You can check out the story here.
As the winner, Ciaran and family will choose between a Coleman Roadtrip gas grill or a handy Kodak HD video camera. You can see all the cheeseburger stories by searching for #cheeseburger on whrrl.com. And congrats again to Ciaran and family!

The People You Know, The Places They Go
February 11th, 2009Whrrl leverages your social network and mobile location awareness to enable personalized discovery for the real world. Whrrl shows you not just where your friends are right now and what they’re doing, but where they have been. In effect, your friends (along with a powerful recommendation engine) light up your map with their experiences so you can discover cool places, events and even new people that you might otherwise have missed.
You can use Whrrl on a web browser, via SMS, or as an application on your mobile phone.
What’s Your Story?
February 11th, 2009Whrrl v2.0 is a storytelling application for the web and mobile phone that lets people share and remember their real-world experiences as they happen. Everyone – whether physically present or not – can contribute to the experience. With permission-based location sharing, stories and photos can be shared with trusted friends, all friends or everyone in the Whrrl network. Users have total privacy control at all times. With Facebook and Twitter integration, you can easily publish your photos and stories out to other social networks. Publishing to Facebook and Twitter creates a real-time web experience so even friends who are not on Whrrl can view and comment on your story. Avatars on your map show real-time “social presence” so you can see whether a person is available to hang out or not.
