Whrrl Launches Beta at Twiistup
I’m sure many of you read this blog and think “Do people at Pelago party all the time?” In fact, I have been asked that question- several times.
The answer is yes- we do like a good party here at Pelago, but with a purpose, of course. Such was the case when we attended Twiistup 5 in Los Angeles on February 12th.
The event was held in typical Los Angeles style: A custom-decorated, 15,000 square foot hangar at Santa Monica Airport, complete with a red carpet, paparazzi, fog machine, and Tron – yes, the movie – clips playing on round screens that hung from the ceiling. The theme was futuristic, ambitious and showed no signs of the Web 2.0 scene slowing down anytime soon. And heck, they started the night out with a Depeche Mode song- how can you go wrong? :-)
Our goal at the event was to launch Whrrl v2.0 beta to a group of extremely influential Web 2.0 leaders from Southern California, Silicon Valley, New York and beyond. We were able to do so, while making amazing connections and receiving extremely valuable feedback from influencers like Sean Percival, Editor at Lalawag and Director at Tsavo; Mike Macadaan, Founder of Twiistup and VP at Tsavo; Shira Lazar, web personality and Host of Reelz TV; and Jessica Gottleib, noted mommy blogger. Additionally, our very own Erin Crabb hosted a live UStream with guest Sarah Brown to capture the event for our teammates back in Seattle and anyone unable to make it to this sold-out event.
Speaking of our Seattle colleagues… we wanted to make sure they got a taste of Southern California while working hard on the next generation of Whrrl v2.0. So, while we were telling stories from Twiistup, they were having their own LA-themed party, complete with the palm trees, hosted drinks and appetizers, and Pelago Jeopardy.
They even had their own live UStream, too and we were able to broadcast both live from Twiistup.
There was just one thing that didn’t happen – SUN. Who would have guessed? Here I am, a SoCal native, telling my Seattle colleagues that it’s always sunny in Los Angeles, and it ended up raining. What are the odds?!?
