A new blog widget and other updates on Whrrl!
On Friday, we rolled out some sweet updates to the Whrrl Web site. Why did we do this? Quite simply, we took the feedback from you, our users, on ways we can continue to make the Whrrl experience the best possible, and we implemented those ideas. We’ll have more updates to come…
Here are some of the changes along with how they can help you make the most of Whrrl online:
Add Whrrl stories to your blog
Now, you can add five of your most recent public Whrrl stories on your blog with our all-new Whrrl web widget! By bringing Whrrl stories to your blog, you can add a rich, real-time element, and even allow your readers to interact with your stories as they are happening! It’s simple to get the widget!
- Log into Whrrl.com and go to http://whrrl.com/widgets.
- You’ll see a widget on the page customized just for you (which will appear on your blog).
- There’s a box at the bottom of the page containing the HTML code for the widget.
- Just copy and paste it into your blog and you’re ready to go!
- For an example of a Whrrl widget in action, visit the blog for blogger @jessicaknows: www.jessicaknows.com.
Have more control of your story content
In addition to the newly added feature to delete photos and comments you’ve posted from the Web, we’ve now given you more control over the content in stories you create, too. Now, you have the ability to delete photos and any content that you or others post to your story. Since the story is yours, we believe you should have the ability to control all the content in your stories.
Say which stories you like – and share them!
When you see a story you like, say so! We’ve added the “like it” icon to stories. If you like a story, click “like it”! In addition, you have the option to share stories from others through your network of friends on Facebook, Twitter and Digg. By clicking the Facebook, Twitter or Digg logo, you can send the story link to your network on that respective site. You have the ability to edit the text and confirm the message before sending it to your friends in those networks.
We hope you’re enjoying these changes! As always, we love hearing what you think. Email your thoughts and/or questions to feedback@whrrl.com.

Why didn’t you actually install one of your blog widgets on your blog? I was really surprised to click on that widget and get a jpg!
Good point! We currently don’t have a generic “whrrl” account set up, since the product is focused on stories of real people. Instead, I’ve linked the image to http://whrrl.com/widgets. See my blog widget in action at http://www.hungrycrabb.com (it’s a work in progress). :)
I love having the widget front and center on my blog – my readers can see what I’m up to! (And my life keeps getting more interesting because I want to keep my widget fresh and…well…some days are just not that compelling!)
:)
Thanks for the awesome widget!
OK, not sure what I’m doing wrong here. I published my first Whrrl story today (love it, BTW) and I want to add the widget to my blog. But when I try, it tells me to download the iPhone app first. I don’t have an iPhone, I just want the widget on my blog! Please help.
Hi Amy,
Thanks for the feedback! Your first story is great, made me miss NYC and jealous of the pampering. :) The current widget just displays live (unedited), public stories. Since your story was edited on the web, it isn’t displayed in our current widget. We are working on some more ways to embed Whrrl into your blog, so keep an eye out in the coming weeks. Also, if you’d like to talk about a way to get the story into your blog for the time being, I’m happy to help – email me: erin@pelago.com.
Thanks!
gotta put my hands on those…
