Easy to book and not difficult to add your pass to the Rail Planner app. After adding the pass, you still have to add trip and the various train journeys, plus activate your pass and add the dates to the pass. Sounds complicated? Nope. Just follow the instructions and you will be fine.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Eurail Pass worth it?
Eurail Passes are absolutely worth it. But it also really depends on how you like to travel. If you prioritise flexibility, or you’re the kind of traveller who likes changing plans on the go, the pass gives you the freedom to hop between Eurail routes across multiple countries without needing to buy separate train tickets each time.

If your itinerary is fixed, budget-tight, and limited to only a few journeys, then individual tickets may work out cheaper.

But if you’re travelling long distances, riding high-speed trains like the Eurostar, visiting several countries with multiple transfers, or travelling during peak seasons when Eurail train tickets can sell out, the Eurail Pass becomes a strong value option. It gives you the convenience of one pass, predictable costs, and the flexibility to move around Europe without the stress of last-minute bookings.
Where to buy the Eurail Global Pass?
You can buy the Eurail Global Pass from the official Eurail website or trusted third-party platforms like Pelago. Just note that you can’t purchase the pass in person at a train station before your trip, so it’s best to get it online ahead of time.

After buying your pass, you’ll have 11 months to activate it. Most travellers use the Rail Planner app to activate their Eurail Pass, but you can also activate it at major European train stations if needed.

One perk of buying through Pelago? You can earn KrisFlyer miles for every dollar spent. Or, if you’re flying with Singapore Airlines, use your PNR booking reference as a promo code for a sweet discount.
What are the three types of Eurail Pass options?
There are three main types of Eurail Passes you can choose from: the Eurail One Country Pass, the Eurail Plus Pass, and the Eurail Global Pass.

The One Country Pass is great if you’re focusing on a single destination. The Plus Pass includes seat reservation costs for many popular trains, giving you an upgraded, all-in-one option. And the Global Pass lets you travel across 33 European countries on a single pass - perfect for multi-country train travel.

Both a Global Pass and One Country Pass come in two formats: a Flexi Pass, which gives you a set number of travel days within a longer validity period, or a Continuous Pass, which offers unlimited consecutive travel days.

Which Eurail Pass you pick really depends on your route, travel style, and how much flexibility you want when you plan your trip.
How do I use the Eurail Pass and how does it actually work?
First, add your Eurail Pass to the Rail Planner app. That’s where you’ll activate it. Just enter your passport number and confirm your first travel day.

From there, the app becomes your main tool. Use it to check train times, plan your route across different Eurail routes, and see if any trains require reservations.

When you’re ready to travel, add your chosen journey to your “travel day” in the app. This generates a QR code - that’s your virtual ticket. Simply show it to the ticket inspector when asked.

Some trains will need seat reservations (and may come with an extra fee), but many regional and high-speed services can be used with just your Eurail Pass alone.
How far in advance can you book Eurail Pass tickets?
You can buy a Eurail Pass up to 11 months before your travel date. Just remember that you’ll need to activate your Eurail Pass within those 11 months as well.

Seat reservations are separate from the pass. These can usually be booked up to 3 months in advance, depending on the route and operator.

And as with any popular Eurail routes, it’s always smarter to book reservations as early as you can to avoid missing out on limited seats.
How do I activate my Eurail Pass?
Activating your Eurail Pass is easy. Just follow the steps below:
  1. Download the Eurail Rail Planner app.
  2. Go to the “My Pass” section.
  3. Tap “Add your Pass” and enter your pass number (found in your confirmation email) along with your last name.
  4. Select “Create a new trip” and name it for easy reference.
  5. Enter your passport or ID number, then choose the start date for your first trip.
  6. Once your Eurail Pass is activated, you can add your first train journey and start planning your route across Europe.
What does the Eurail Global Pass cover?
The Eurail Global Pass is one of the most extensive rail passes you can get. It covers unlimited train travel across 33 European countries, giving you access to high-speed, regional, and night trains. It also includes some ferries and buses, with popular Eurail routes like London to Paris on the Eurostar or Rome to Milan on Le Frecce included.

Flexibility is a huge win here. The pass lets you hop on and off most trains without a fixed itinerary, so you don’t have to stress about locking in travel dates, especially if you’re using a Flexi Global Pass.
Can I use the Eurail Pass in Switzerland? And what's the difference between the Eurail Pass and the Swiss Travel Pass?
Yes, you can definitely use the Eurail Pass in Switzerland. But if you want a more comprehensive way to move around the country, then the Swiss Travel Pass is hard to beat.

The Eurail Pass is better if you're travelling widely across Europe outside of Switzerland - its cross-country coverage is much broader and often more affordable. But if your focus is exploring Switzerland itself, the Swiss Travel Pass gives you far more value. It lets you use the extensive Swiss public transport network for free, including trains, postal buses, city buses, boats, cable cars, and trams.

One thing to keep in mind: the Swiss Travel Pass doesn’t cover travel outside the country. So if you’re planning day trips to Italy or France, you’ll need separate tickets. But it does offer great perks, like free entry to over 500 museums and discounts on mountain railways - benefits the Eurail Pass doesn’t include.

If you'd like to find out more about the Swiss Travel Pass, check out our complete guide on where to buy it and how to use it.
Is the Eurail Pass refundable?
Yes, the Eurail Pass is refundable. Just make sure you cancel your pass at least one day before travel so it’s eligible for a 100% refund. No refunds will be given if you cancel less than 24 hours before your trip.

If you have a mobile pass, you’ll need to request the refund before the last possible activation date. Paper passes, on the other hand, must be returned unused before the first day of validity. If your paper pass is certified by a railway official as “NOT USED,” you can request a refund through your account up to one month after the last day of validity.

In any case, it’s always best to request your refund as early as possible.
