The Sagano Romantic Train operates on the former San'in Main Line, which was shut down due to the double-track electrification of the JR San'in Main Line. This Art Deco-style train, with its red body and bright yellow and black patterns, covers a distance of 7.3 km from Saga Torokko Station, which is located next to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, to Kameoka Torokko Station in about 25 minutes. It follows the entire length of the Hozugawa River and provides a stunning view of the scenic beauty of each season.
In addition to the guidance from the conductors, the Sagano Scenic Railway offers a "multilingual audio guide service" that supports Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean. This service benefits foreign visitors, who can enjoy the ride to the fullest. By downloading the free app on your smartphone, you can listen to the guide according to the train's location before or after your trip. So, you can savor the breathtaking views seen from the train and the exciting stories your guide tells.
