    5 minsAdmission Ticket Free
On Petrus Tillaeus' map from 1733, the alley is mentioned as Lilla Maria gr. In the past, the alley led together with Peter Mynde's hill to Maria Magdalena church and it is the church that gave the alley its name. Earlier names included Sanktæ Martæ Gränd (1648) and S:t Martæ gatun A building that remains from this time is the current Hotell Anno 1647.

  • Tunnelbacken

    5 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The park is located on Katarinaberget's southern rock wall down towards Katarinavägen. It is designed as a terrace system with several "rooms" and is named after the Katarina tunnel. It was a projected tunnel for road traffic that was never built (not to be confused with the Katarina tunnel for rail traffic). Next to Tunnelbacken are Harald Lindberg's stairs and under the park, the car park Slussen has its entrances and exits. Sofas are placed in several places. At Klevgränd's turning area there is an open, more square-like vantage point. It is included as a renovation object in the City of Stockholm's list of parks that are in need of refurbishment from 2009. The proposal is, among other things, to improve the lighting and sanitation and make a general overhaul of the facility.
  • Mosebacke Torg

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Mosebacke (Mosebacke torg) is a square and park where the first plantings took place during 1852–1853. The square and the surrounding neighborhood of Mosebacke were created after the Mosebacke area was hit by an extensive fire in 1857, when many properties there burned to the ground. The park was remodeled in 1941 when it received its current look. Since the 18th century, the site has been known for venues where cultural events take place. It is the site of Stockholm's oldest private theatre, Södra teatern. The current theater was designed by architect Johan Fredrik Åbom and was inaugurated in 1859. There are also restaurants, an outdoor terrace and stages where local celebrities like Cornelis Vreeswijk have performed.
  • Fiskargatan

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Brazilian twins Otavio Pandolfo and Gustavo Pandolfo aka Os Gemeos wrapped up a massive masterpiece here at Fiskargatan. Os Gemeos began their careers by being involved in spray-painting graffiti in 1987. Slowly but surely they began to gain large recognition in the underground urban scene. As their influence spread across the graffiti urban community they began to help define Brazil’s very own unique style. Their style evolved around traditional hip-hop style and the Brazilian culture. After a few days of work, the twins unveiled this superb piece that is just stunning! Full of small details and references, the artwork shows several of their signature yellow characters.
  • Katarina Kyrka(Pass by)

    Admission Ticket Free
Katarina kyrka is one of the major churches in central Stockholm, Sweden. The original building was constructed 1656–1695. It has been rebuilt twice after being destroyed by fires, the second time during the 1990s. The Katarina-Sofia borough is named after Katarina Parish and the neighbouring parish of Sofia. The original architect was Jean de la Vallée. The construction was severely delayed due to shortage of funds. In 1723 the church, together with half of the buildings in the parish, was completely destroyed in a major fire. Rebuilding started almost immediately, under supervision of Göran Josua Adelcrantz, the city architect, who designed a larger, octagonal tower. On May 17, 1990, the church burned down again, leaving almost nothing remaining but the external walls. Architect Ove Hidemark was responsible for rebuilding the church, which reopened in 1995. Several famous Swedes are buried in the cemetery as most notably the assassinated Foreign Minister Anna Lindh.
  • Glasbruksgatan

    15 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Glasbruksgatan is named after a factory of glassworks that was located here during the 1660s and employed around 40 workers. Melker's glassworks gave rise to several neighborhood names and two street names in the area around Katarinaberget's northern slope. The glass factory quarter and streets had not been regulated during the major transformation of Södermalm that began in 1641. The reason was the inaccessible, mountainous location on the northern slope of Katarinaberget. The buildings in the area mainly consisted of low timber houses which were mostly wiped out in the Katarina fire in 1723. At the end of the 19th century, the city planned extensive regulations of streets and blocks north and east of Katarina church, which can be seen on contemporary maps but which were never fully implemented. Even today, the area is characterized by many stairs and "crooked" roads.
  • Master Mikaels Gata

    15 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Through the construction of Katarinavägen - Renstiernas Gata at the beginning of the 20th century, Fjällgatan came to be divided into two separate parts. In 1939, the part west of Renstiernas Gata was proposed to be named Mäster Mikaels Gata. The neighborhood Mäster Mikael, which gave rise to the street name, has in turn been named after the man, Michael Reissuer, who in the years 1635-50 was the city's executioner; master was a common title for the executioner. Master Mikael has lived in the neighborhood. Master Mikael was - master, sharp judge and supervisor of the executioners and the racks. They served as assistants at the executions on the gallows, they captured stray pigs and dogs, they skinned horses - they were the pariahs of society. They were relegated to the very edges of the mountains, they were no one's company, often criminals and society's unfortunate children.
  • Glasbrukstäppan

    5 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Glasbrukstäppan, like the nearby Glasgränden and Glasbruksgatan and the Glasbrukstäppan neighborhood, is named after a glassworks that was established in 1653 in the area. The owner of the mill was Melker Jung, who ten years earlier set up his glassworks on Kungsholmen and moved it here after a fire. Glasbrukstäppan was previously called Glasbruksklippan. On the cliff stood in the middle of the 17th century a windmill, called Swart Hindriks mill. It probably burned down in connection with the Katarina fire in 1723. The mill gave rise to the street name Katarina Östra Qvarngränd which in 1885 was replaced by Stigbergsgatan and in 1939 by the current Sandbacksgatan.
  • Katarina Kyrka

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
In the 1590s, Johan III had the Sture Chapel built, which was located approximately in the middle of the current cemetery on the site where Kristian Tyrann had the victims of Stockholm's massacre burned. Around this chapel it is known that there was a cemetery. The Finnish congregation used the Sture Chapel in the early 17th century and also buried its parishioners here, as evidenced by a memorial stone in the cemetery.
