Guide was excellent. Knowledgeable and caring of us and my reduced mobility mother.
We booked the guided tour through the Colosseum Arena and Forum (not underground) and had a wonderful experience. The booking allowed us to skip the relatively long lines outside of both the Colosseum and Roman Forum; we entered almost instantly. Our guide Bogdan was fantastically engaging, knowledegable, and had a great sense of humour. He was clearly very passionate about Roman history (he sounded like someone who had studied history to some level) and was quick to share interesting facts and challenge common misconceptions about the ancient Romans. Unless you're already very familiar with the history of both places, I would recommend a tour such as this one instead of buying tickets and simply wondering around.
The queue for the arena level was short so there was barely any waiting time to get in. The tour guide was informative and patient in explaining everything. Roman forum and Palentine hill is huge so it is impossible for the guide to cover everything. However, once the tour ended you can still roam on your own.
