Itinerary

  • Start of Tour (8:30AM)

Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures office near MRT Sam Yot Station at 8:30AM.
  • Start Cycling

After a quick bike fitting and briefing, we head out at 9:00AM.
  • Khaosan Road

Cycling through the heart of the backpacker area, Khaosan Road, you will soon be biking off the roads. This bike tour winds through small laneways, past ancient temples and canals to see the heart and soul of Bangkok.
  • Sightseeing

There are no particularly famous sights that you will see on this bike tour. It is all about exploring the city by bike away from the tourist crowds and big roads, to see the real Bangkok where people live, work and play.
  • Rama 8 Bridge

Cycle along the Chao Phraya River and then pedal cross the river on the Rama 8 Bridge. From here, you'll visit ancient temples and urban street life.
  • Bangkok Noi Canal

Bangkok Noi is the name given to a large canal of the Chao Phraya River. Bike along the canal through tiny alleyways, home to a Muslim community. After cycling over a bridge you bike the canal back the other way, this time passing Buddhist temples and one of Bangkok’s first train depots. If open, you are in luck to visit a bronze bowl foundry and the old steam engines at the Thonburi train depot. Such is the diversity of the city when you get up close.
  • Ferry Ride

Hop on a local ferry to cross back over the river.
  • Grand Palace

The bike tour passes by the Grand Palace where you can take a walk through a public park that was once exclusively used by the royal family.
  • Local Sights

After cycling more twisting alleyways, pedaling through a food market, you bike past rows of Buddhas and other sacred images.
  • Giant Swing

The area around the Giant Swing is where Buddha images are made and sold. The Giant Swing is one of the landmarks of the city and was once used for an important Hindu ceremony.
  • End of Tour (3:30PM)

From the swing, it is only a short bike ride back to the Grasshopper Adventures.

We cycled round areas seemingly without purpose or objective. While we saw narrow lanes, markets and temples apart from the fact we might have got lost without a guide we received very little information about the places we saw. It would have been good to know the history of the places, how they have changed over the years, what the future is for them etc. For the money we paid, yes the bikes, the lunch and the canal boat were good, we didn't get as much out of the day as we expected.
