WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
This is not a lecture-style history tour, but a conversational walk through
real places where Cold War life left its mark. Expect to see traces of
bombings, hear about the challenges of living under a planned economy, and
witness how ordinary Hanoians adapted during one of the most intense decades
of the 20th century. Along the way, your guide will connect small local
details to the larger picture of Vietnam’s place in Cold War geopolitics.

Your journey begins in the Cho Gioi backstreets, where your guide introduces stories of scarcity, black markets, and survival during the planned economy years. The walk continues toward the Kham Thien B-52 Memorial, where wreckage and monuments recall the air raids that devastated Hanoi in 1972. Standing here, you’ll learn how families rebuilt their lives from the ashes of war.
The experience ends at the famous yet intimate Train Street, where locals still live just inches from the railway line. Here, over a coffee or tea, you’ll reflect on how Hanoians have balanced hardship with resilience, turning scars of history into symbols of everyday life.
