Known as the Rose-Red City, Petra was the impressive capital of the Nabataean kingdom. Its magnificent ruins remained hidden from the world until 1812, when Swiss explorer J.L. Burckhardt, disguised as an Arab scholar, unveiled the city. Today, Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Petra by Night tours run from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. After the tour, you will be driven back to Amman or the airport.
