The Sagano Romantic Train operates on the former San'in Main Line, which was shut down due to the double-track electrification of the JR San'in Main Line. This Art Deco-style train, with its red body and bright yellow and black patterns, covers a distance of 7.3 km from Saga Torokko Station, which is located next to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, to Kameoka Torokko Station in about 25 minutes. It follows the entire length of the Hozugawa River and provides a stunning view of the scenic beauty of each season.
In addition to the guidance from the conductors, the Sagano Scenic Railway offers a "multilingual audio guide service" that supports Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean. This service benefits foreign visitors, who can enjoy the ride to the fullest.
