It was built on the remain of a Chiness fortress dating from 7th century, on drained land reclaimed from the Red River Delta in Hanoi. The Citadel witnessed a serries of dramatic changes thoughout the Vietnam history and braced itself through a number of destructive wars. The most nobtable part of Thang Long Citadel is Centre Sector, which was listed as one of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Sites in 2010.
