  • Ginzan Hot Spring

Ginzan Onsen is a picturesque hot spring town in the mountains of Yamagata
Prefecture, Tohoku region. Once a silver mining town in the 17th century, it
takes its name from the nearby mines. The town still features Taisho and early
Showa-era wooden buildings, creating a nostalgic and romantic atmosphere,
especially in winter when snow blankets the streets. Ginzan Onsen was the
setting for the popular TV series Oshin and is said to have inspired the hot
spring bathhouse in Spirited Away. Its historic ryokan and beautiful winter
    scenery attract visitors year-round.
