The Natural Paradise of Semuc Champey is extremely close to the National Park, which was established in 1995. The majority of people living in Guatemala are local Mayan people, specifically the Q'ueqchi' ethnic group, who consider the Lanquin Caves to be a sacred site. This was once utilized to carry out Mayan ceremonies, and it is occasionally still used for that purpose today. The caves are the Mayan entryway to the infraworld.
