The Tarn was a favoured place of William Wordsworth, who, in his Epistle to Sir George Howland Beaumont Bart, likened it to “Diana’s Looking-glass...round, clear and bright as heaven", in reference to Lake Nemi, the mirror of Diana in Rome.
