- Introduction to attractions -

  • Shenqiao Crossing Bridge

The sacred bridge located at the entrance of Nikko Futarasan Shrine has a
beautiful and bright vermilion appearance. It was once known as the "Royal
Bridge" and "Mountain Suga Snake Bridge". It is a designated national
important cultural property of Japan and was registered as a national
important cultural property in December 1999. World Heritage.

"Sami Bridge" belongs to "Nikko Futarasan Shrine". The bridge is 28 meters
long, 7.4 meters wide, and 10.6 meters above the water. There are 10 main
columns built on the railings, each of which is decorated with imitation orbs.
The inside of the bridge plate is painted with black lacquer, and the rest is
painted with vermilion lacquer, which is full of Japanese flavor.

At the end of the Nara period, it was built according to mysterious
traditions, so it was revered as a sacred bridge. Since its reconstruction in
1636, it has been used exclusively for Shinto rituals, shogun social
gatherings, imperial envoys' streets, and the supply of coins and silk to
envoys. General civilians can only use the fake bridge (Sunko Bridge) located
downstream.

The sacred bridge was opened to the public in 1973 to commemorate the 1,200th
anniversary of the founding of Nanti Mountain in 1982 and underwent extensive
renovations in 1997.

It is currently the only ancient bridge in Japan in the form of a "feather
bridge" in a mountain gorge, and is known as one of Japan's three most amazing
bridges (the others being Kintai Bridge in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Sarubashi
Bridge in Yamanashi Prefecture).

  • Shenyuan

"Shinen" is located on the left side of Futarasan Shrine and is generally used
as a worship area. This area is home to a variety of important cultural
properties, including the Tang Dynasty bronze spring lanterns known as "yokai
lanterns" because they undergo mysterious changes when lit and have numerous
knife marks on their appearance, Hie Shrine, shrines, Daikokuden, and
700-year-old sacred tree, large cedar, Friend Shrine, etc. Among them, there
are bamboo trees near the Erhuang Spirit Spring that can pray for marriage,
and spiritual stones that pray for a child and a safe delivery. It is a
popular energy attraction.
