The houses and the buildings are all traditional, especially in its Old Town. You’ll be given some free time to have lunch in the city, so make sure to bring some cash and try out dishes made using top grade Hida Beef. Shirakawa-go, on the other hand, is known for the numerous gassho zukuri houses that are lined up all around it. These houses are over a hundred years old and their design is said to look like the clasped hands of monks in prayer.
