After driving through endless stretches of untouched natural forest, you will arrive at the beautiful Lake Shikotsu, surrounded by majestic wilderness. Lake Shikotsu is known as Japan’s northernmost non-freezing lake, remaining unfrozen even in winter. It has also been selected by the Ministry of the Environment as having one of the clearest lake waters in Japan, making it famous nationwide for its exceptional transparency.
Lake Toya is a caldera lake formed by a volcanic eruption approximately 100,000 years ago. Surrounded by rich natural landscapes, it is home to a wide variety of plants and wildlife.
Lunch will be served at Toyako Manseikaku Lakeside Hotel, located along the shores of Lake Toya.
After departing Lake Toya, the tour will visit Mt. Usu, which was designated in August 2009 as Japan’s first UNESCO Global Geopark. A Global Geopark is a protected area where visitors can learn about and enjoy geological heritage with the support of nature trails, signage, and guides. The Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark is the 59th region in the world to be certified.
Here, you will ride the Mt. Usu Ropeway and enjoy the spectacular panoramic scenery.
This is a recommended winter tour that allows you to visit two of Hokkaido’s signature lakes in a single day.
During the Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival (Feb 1 – Feb 23), you may optionally visit the festival.
Admission fee is at your own expense.
