You can experience listening to the chant at a traditional temple in Kyoto.
Shomyo is Buddhist music that chants sutras to traditional melodies entirely different from Western music and has a history of more than 1,000 years since it arrived in Japan. However, chanting Shomyo at special memorial services (events) in a limited number of temples, and the general public only has a few opportunities to hear it.
We have planned this Shomyo experience session so that as many people as possible can listen to and experience the world of Buddhism. When you hear the voice of Buddha in front of the Buddha, where the candles are flickering and the incense is wafting, a pure time will flow, and you may feel like meeting the Buddha for real.
Shokoji Temple began approximately 800 years ago, in the second year of Kangen (1244), and has 27 generations. It has been closely related to this temple since ancient times and has preserved its tradition.
Even though it is located in the town about 10 minutes by foot from Kyoto Station, it is surprisingly quiet, and you can relax while looking at the garden and listening to the enlightenment.
