Itinerary

  • Syntagma Square

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Syntagma Square "Constitution Square") is the central square of Athens. The square is named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was obliged to grant after a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843. It is located in front of the 19th-century Old Royal Palace, housing the Greek Parliament since 1934. Syntagma Square is the most important square of modern Athens from both a historical and social point of view, at the heart of commercial activity and Greek politics. The name Syntagma (Greek: Σύνταγμα) alone also refers to the neighbourhood surrounding the square.
  • Hellenic Parliament

    20 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The Hellenic Parliament in Athens: In the heart of Athens, north of Syntagma Square, stands an austere Neoclassical building that now houses the Parliament of Greece. The three-floor building has two entrances, one on the west side used for the entrance of the Members of the Parliament, and another on the front side, facing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The National Gardens and Zappeion Megaron are situated adjacent to the Parliament. The building was designed by the revered German architect Friedrich von Gärtner and its construction lasted from 1836 to 1842. Originally, it served as the palace of the King of Greece. It was inhabited by King Otto and his wife, Queen Amalia, and later by King George I and his family. However, in 1909, a fire caused extensive damage to the building and restoration works started. When the monarchy was abolished in 1924 after a referendum, the building was used as a museum and a hospital.
  • National Garden

    15 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Take a stroll in the National Garden of Athens!! The National Garden, called the Royal Garden until 1974, is a public park of 15.5 hectares (38 acres) in the center of the Greek capital, Athens. It is located between the districts of Kolonaki and Pangrati, directly behind the Greek Parliament building (The Old Palace) and continues to the South to the area where the Zappeion is located, across from the Panathenaiko or Kalimarmaro Olympic Stadium of the 1896 Olympic Games. The Garden also encloses some ancient ruins, column drums and Corinthian capitals of columns, mosaics, and other features. On the Southeast side are the busts of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of Greece, and of the Philhellene Jean-Gabriel Eynard. On the South side are the busts of the celebrated Greek poets Dionysios Solomos, author of the Greek National Hymn, and Aristotelis Valaoritis.
  • Panathenaic Stadium

    15 minsAdmission Ticket Not Included
Welcome at the Stadium of the first Modern Olympic Games! The unique marble Stadium in the world. The Panathenaic Stadium is a classical cultural and touristic monument of Greece and one of the most significant monuments not only for Athens, but for the whole Greece. It is one of our city’s most popular touristic attractions and one of Athens’ landmarks. Its rich history is directly connected to the Modern Olympic Games as from their revival in 1896 until the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. It is also the place from where the Olympic flame sets up its journey to the cities of the Olympic Games, both Winter, Summer and Youth.
  • Temple of Olympian Zeus(Melintasi)

    Admission Ticket Free
The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the centre of the Greek capital, Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period, the temple, which included 104 colossal columns, was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.
  • Arch of Hadrian

    10 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The Arch of Hadrian in Athens: The Arch of Hadrian is a triumphal arch which lies in proximity to Syntagma Square, right between the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. On the northwest, this monument faces the Monument of Lycicrates in Plaka. The construction of this temple started in 131 AD when the people wanted to celebrate the arrival of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and thank him for his benefactions to the city. The architect and builders of the arch are unknown to this day. Its location is not random, but rather symbolic. In fact, it was strategically selected to mark the line between the ancient part of Athens and Hadrian's new city.
  • Plaka

    30 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Plaka Neighborhood in Athens: Plaka is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Athens, located right below the Acropolis Hill. It is extremely beautiful and picturesque, standing out for its authentic character and traditional layout. The largest part of Plaka consists of neoclassical houses that date back to the 19th century, although archaeological findings suggest that the region has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. Plaka is also known as the "neighborhood of the gods".
