The Leshan Giant Buddha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a colossal 70-meter-tall stone statue of Maitreya Buddha carved into the cliffs of Lingyun Mountain in Sichuan, China. Constructed during the Tang Dynasty over 90 years, this remarkable masterpiece was built to calm the turbulent waters where three rivers converge. Today, it remains the world’s largest sitting stone Buddha and a symbol of harmony between humanity and nature.
Visitors can descend the winding Nine-Curved Plank Road to admire the Buddha up close, or take a scenic river cruise for breathtaking panoramic views of the statue set against lush mountains. Nearby, the tranquil Lingyun Temple and the natural formation known as the Sleeping Buddha enrich the cultural and spiritual experience, making this a must-visit destination for travelers seeking awe and serenity.
