Highlights

There’s no better way to spend a winter or spring day than exploring the Overberg region of Cape Town—
where you're captivated by the gentle giants of the sea, the Southern right whales, and later, savoring the Cape’s finest cool-climate wines in the idyllic Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley. Add to that a close-up encounter with African penguins at Stony Point, and you’ve experienced a truly unforgettable slice of South African magic.

The journey itself, both to and from these destinations, is scenic and soul-stirring—so much so that by the time you arrive, you may find yourself wishing the road would stretch on just a little farther.

Itinerary

  • Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve(通過)

    Admission Ticket Free
En route to Hermanus, just 40 minutes east of Cape Town, rises the majestic Hottentots Holland mountain range—soaring up to 1,000 meters above sea level. These ancient mountains were pushed upward by tectonic forces over 100 million years ago, forming part of the geologically significant Cape Fold Belt. As your journey winds along the iconic Sir Lowry’s Pass, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of these dramatic peaks, their rugged slopes carving a path into the heart of the Overberg region. The natural beauty and sheer scale of the mountains make this stretch of the drive an unforgettable introduction to South Africa’s diverse landscapes.
  • Walker Bay Nature Reserve

    2 hoursAdmission Ticket Included
Upon arriving at Hermanus New Harbour, you will receive a 20-minute safety briefing, along with an overview of what to expect out at sea. A marine biologist on board will offer fascinating insights into the whales—explaining why these gentle giants migrate to our shores during this time of the year. Our spacious vessel is licensed to carry up to 80 passengers, but we limit each trip to just 65 to ensure a more personal and enjoyable experience. After the briefing, you'll set out into Walker Bay in search of the whales. Known for their inquisitive nature, they often approach the boats—giving you a rare, close-up encounter. Some of them can weigh as much as 50 tons which is equivalent to ten fully grown African elephants!
  • Hermanus

    1 hoursAdmission Ticket Free
Hermanus is a charming coastal town located a mere five minutes' drive from the Hermanus New harbor. Famous for its fresh seafood restaurants and the annual festivals. It is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and foodies alike. If you're still eager to spot more whales after the boat trip, your tour guide will take you through the scenic coastal walking trails—offering breathtaking views and the chance to witness these majestic creatures from land. While you are still in Hermanus, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice, sampling some of the region’s finest local fare. Afterward, the journey continues into the serene Hermanus winelands for yet another unforgettable experience.
  • La Vierge Wines & Restaurant

    1 hoursAdmission Ticket Included
Nestled in the renowned Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus, La Vierge stands as one of South Africa’s premier Pinot Noir producers. Established over two decades ago on untouched, virgin soils, La Vierge has cultivated a reputation for excellence, crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Situated between the imposing Babilonstoring mountain and the cool Atlantic Ocean, the estate’s vineyards benefit from warm daytime temperatures tempered by brisk ocean breezes and crisp, cool mornings and evenings — ideal conditions for producing world-class wines. While you are here, you will be treated to exceptional wines and breathtaking panoramic views of the valley, best enjoyed from the estate’s inviting patio.
  • Stony Point Nature Reserve

    40 minsAdmission Ticket Included
On the return journey to Cape Town along Route 44—also known as the Whale Coast Route—we’ll stop to visit a special wildlife highlight: the penguin colony at Betty’s Bay. Stony Point is home to one of only two mainland African penguin colonies in South Africa, the other being the famous Boulders Beach near the Cape of Good Hope. What makes Stony Point so unique is its tranquil setting. Tucked away from major towns and tourist crowds, it offers a quieter, more intimate experience with these endearing seabirds. Watching the penguins waddle along the boardwalk or dive into the ocean in this peaceful setting is a charming and memorable way to round off the day.
