You will learn how to paint and also how to appreciate the art you see in a new way.
Girl with a Pearl Earring is Vermeer’s most famous painting.
Johannes Vermeer was the master of light.
We have chosen Vermeer's classic painting of The Girl with the Pearl Earring because it is familiar to many and because it has great examples of all of the principles we teach in this intro class including
-a variety of colours
- Chiaroscuro (the Italian term for extreme light and dark contrast)
-a full range of flesh tones ... we teach an easy method for mixing skin tones!
-a variety of edges including hard, soft and lost edges and we will teach you to recognise and execute these all easily
This short workshop is fun for everyone and great for beginners.

Learning to paint is easy and fun! You will learn the fundamental principles, materials, and techniques to create your own copy of Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring in this Introduction to Oil Painting class. This workshop is great for beginners but is also suitable for more advanced students as instruction is personalised for each student. Your instructor is a professional artist, teacher and Director of The Florence Studio in Florence, Italy. The process taught will include: 1/a lecture and demonstration of materials and methods and colour mixing 2/painting the Old Master copy yourself on an already prepared drawing ...previous drawing skills are not necessary for this class. We will pack your painting for easy transport home with you.
