A shallow water channel was built from the Yamuna river, which ran through the middle of the straight road, known as the Chandani Chowk bazaar, with roads and shops on either side of the channel. This road had three bazaars. Chandni Chowk, or the Moonlight Square, and its three bazaars were designed and established by Princess Jahanara Begum, Shah Jahan's favourite daughter, in 1650 CE.Jama Masjid

It is known to have served as a Mosque & a Gurudwara alternating itself owing to the sensitive political climate for a long time before finally being converted into a full-fledged Gurudwara with Gold-Gilded Domes In 1930.
