Highlights of the Visit: The Lion’s Gate & Stairway: Halfway up, you'll reach the Lion's Gate, with two giant lion paws carved into the rock. This was once a massive lion-shaped gateway. From here, you climb a spiral staircase to the summit. Frescoes: Midway, you’ll find a sheltered rock gallery of ancient frescoes, believed to be celestial maidens or "apsaras" painted over 1,500 years ago. They're remarkably preserved and full of color and elegance. The Mirror Wall: A polished wall once so shiny that the king could see his reflection.
