Next, head to Ashiya’s lively Toto Ichiba (Ashiya Fish Market), where you can savor fresh seafood—like sashimi and seafood bowls—sourced directly from local fishermen. The market also features BBQ areas and a variety of local goods, including vegetables, meats, tea, and coffee.
Continue to Ashiyagama-no-Sato, a cultural facility showcasing iron tea kettles from the Muromachi period. Enjoy a traditional matcha tea experience in a serene Japanese garden or tea room, immersing yourself in the region’s tea heritage.
In the afternoon, discover the lush Totoro Forest—part of Genkai Quasi-National Park—beloved for its resemblance to scenes from the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro.
Finally, visit Sakurai Futamigaura, a scenic beach known for its “married rocks” (Meoto Iwa), a symbol of eternal love. End your journey with breathtaking sunset views before returning to Hakata Station.
