Experience an adventure in the sea of coral reefs comparable to the Great Barrier Reef, and enjoy catering filled with Yaeyama food culture at a private beach visited by Sabani. (Vegan and gluten-free are also available) Souvenirs such as coasters made from Sabani scraps are also available! After a short break, the evening program will be a special area of the Hirakubo Peninsula, Japan's first starry sky conservation area, where you can admire the starry sky and enjoy Yaeyama gastronomy at a BBQ. After the meal, we will go on a night Sabani cruise where the sanshin resonates. This is a premium experience where you can learn about Yaeyama's star culture and take home a souvenir of the Southern Cross and Milky Way in starry sky photos.
Ishigaki Island Terroir
The entire small island is a dream kitchen filled with a wide variety of ingredients. We offer a menu that makes the most of the ingredients that can only be tasted on this tour, which are less stressful on the body, and local chicken producers who do not use additives such as growth hormones and are raised in a way that is noteworthy in terms of animal rights. We hope that this will be a time that bridges cultural exchange through food, not only enjoying delicious food, but also learning about the stories behind the ingredients and the origins of the dishes.

6:30PM Kuura Beach- At Sea Sunset Cruise...This is a course where you can watch the sunset that paints the great nature of the Hirakubo Peninsula crimson red. The sunset seen from the quietly sailing sabani is very romantic.
7:00PM Private Beach- Enjoy traditional cuisine on a private beach...Enjoy the starry sky in a special area of the Hirakubo Peninsula, Japan's first starry sky conservation area, and enjoy Yaeyama gastronomy made from locally raised cows and goats, cooked on the spot. Experience the charm of Yaeyama through unique ingredients and cuisine born from the rich nature, history, and culture of the Hirakubo Peninsula. Not only will you enjoy delicious cuisine, but you will also have a fun time learning about the stories behind the cuisine, the ingredients, and the origins of the cuisine. The main event is an adventure tour set in the sea where coral reefs comparable to the Great Barrier Reef lie, and catering filled with Yaeyama food culture is provided at a private beach visited by Sabani! You can also take home coasters made from the scraps of Sabani as souvenirs.
Schedule:
10:00am Meet at Yoshida Sabani Shipyard- Learn about the history of the Sabani. Yoshida will lecture on the wisdom of our ancestors, culture, and connection with nature.
10:30am Kuura Beach- Get on the Sabani... Offer a prayer to the sea and prepare to depart. Enjoy an adventure cruise on the sea where Japan's largest coral reefs, comparable to the Great Barrier Reef, lie. You will feel the swaying of the sea, the sound of the wind, and the leisurely flow of time.
11:15am At sea (reef) 'Coral snorkeling'- Go to the coral reef point and experience snorkeling. Many colorful fishes living on the coral reef are waiting for you. In winter, you can look into the sea from the sabani with octopus glasses.
12:00am Private beach- 'Eat' lunch at island terroir...The cruise stops at a small private beach. On the beach, you will enjoy traditional Yaeyama cuisine cooked with freshly harvested ingredients. Vegan options are also available. Take a leisurely break for tea time.
1:00pm At sea- 'Control' the sabani...The sea is calm. A gentle breeze occasionally blows, and the sail is manipulated with a rope from the rear of the sabani to catch the wind. Then the sabani glides across the surface of the sea and moves in the same direction as the wind. Enjoy the feeling of being one with nature.
2:00pm Kuura Beach Return to port
2:30pm Yoshida Sabani Shipbuilding- 'Building' a Sabani...The second half is a workshop where you can experience the traditional techniques of Sabani. The Honhagi technique, which joins multiple pieces of wood together without using iron nails, was invented in the 1800s. You will make coasters and accessories using the scraps of Sabani.
3:30pm Around Kuura- Free time...Walk around the Hirakubo Peninsula, chat with local residents, or just relax on a quiet hill with a great view. Throughout the tour, you will feel the power of living in a rich natural environment and community tourism that makes use of the traditional culture of Yaeyama.

Okinawa's traditional wooden sailing boat "Sabani" symbolizes the wisdom, culture, and deep connection with the sea of the Yaeyama people. This is a valuable program that allows you to contribute to the future of Okinawa's marine culture through the experience of "learning", "building", "riding" and "operating" a Sabani together with Tomoatsu Yoshida, the only boat carpenter on Ishigaki Island who preserves the traditional techniques of "Sabani" construction and passes on the steering technique to the next generation.

Please note that if we judge that it is not safe to sail due to the following reasons, we may cancel the tour as it is a matter of life and death for our customers.

・We may also cancel the tour when a thunderstorm warning is issued
・When wave height is 4.0m or more
・When wind speed is 11.0m or more
・When it is clear that the weather will suddenly worsen due to the passage of a front, etc.
・When the guide judges it dangerous on site regardless of the weather forecast
・When there are participants who cannot follow warnings and instructions about dangerous or selfish behavior
・When a participant's health is clearly unwell or has deteriorated

If you are unable to go out to sea, we offer jungle tours on the east side of the Hirakubo Peninsula. Please let us know.
