Gotanjoji – The “Cat Temple”
Known as the “Cat Temple,” Gotanjoji’s story began when four abandoned kittens were rescued during the temple’s construction. Over 250 cats have been cared for here, but thanks to the deputy head priest’s efforts in finding homes and social media outreach, around 30 cats now reside at the temple.
Gotanjoji has fostered many connections between cats and adopters, earning it a reputation as a “Matchmaking Temple,” attracting couples seeking blessings.
Sermon and mini-Zen meditation experience: Refresh your mind and body with a short Zen meditation experience!
Note: In case of sudden ceremonies, only free temple visits will be available.
