The Mekong River and its landscapes are some of the best attractions around Luang Prabang. We have designed a day tour that combines a morning bike ride north along the Mekong River, a visit of Ban Xiang Hai, the holy Pak Ou Caves, and a scenic return boat cruise on the Mekong River. If you like both the relaxation on the majestic river and a small portion of biking, this may be your perfect pick. A perfect day tour around Luang Prabang!
Itinerary
MORNING BIKE RIDE, PAK OU CAVE, AND A SCENIC LONGTAIL BOAT RIDE ON THE MEKONG RIVER (L)
Meet your tour guide in the morning and get sized up on our quality mountain bikes. We’ll ride from the city center along the Mekong River on mixed dirt and paved roads through local villages. Our stops will include the mulberry paper making and weaving village, Ban Xieng Lek, and Ban Xiang Hai village, popularly known as the Whiskey Village for the Lao Lao rice whiskey produced there.
The Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers meet in Pak Ou, a stunning setting with incredible limestone cliffs rising from the rivers. We’ll stop for a great lunch at a select restaurant with a fantastic view of both rivers and the cave. Following lunch, a private boat will take us across the river to the holy Pak Ou Caves where we'll take our time to view the thousands of Buddha relics in both the lower and upper caves.
Step aboard our longtail boat again for a relaxing and scenic 25 km Mekong River cruise taking about 1.5 hours to return to Luang Prabang. Arriving in Luang Prabang, we'll cycle back to the bike shop to conclude this memorable full day tour.

Road condition: well-paved road and scenic dirt road (25%) along the Mekong River
Landscape: scenic Mekong views and teak plantation
