Itinerary

  • Three Bells of Fira

    21 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The Three Bells of Fira, also known as The Catholic Church of the Dormition, is a Greek Catholic church located on the Greek island of Santorini. The church is famous for its blue dome, three bells, and panoramic views. The structure is located in Fira, immediately above the cliffs that dominate western Santorini. The current Three Bells of Fira have been replaced by a multitude of different structures. Two tiny cave churches were constructed into the then-solid rock face in the mid-17th century. As the cliff retreated and an infirmary was erected, these chapels were finally demolished. This structure was eventually occupied by Jesuits, who stayed on the property until it was donated to the Diocese of Santorini. The current church was erected in 1757 and has since been renovated and extended several times. The structure was severely damaged in the 1956 Amorgos earthquake, and it was later repaired.
  • Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist

    21 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic parish in Fira. It is the cathedral of the Santorini Roman Catholic Diocese, which was founded in 1204. The cathedral sits in the city center, in the Catholic district. The current church, a blue-gray and white baroque edifice, was erected in 1823. Following the earthquake of 1956, it was totally repaired and reconstructed in 1970.
  • Fira Theotokopoulos Main Square

    20 minsAdmission Ticket Free
The Fira Theotokopoulos Main Square is where the residents congregate. During peak season, the little streets are congested and filled with all types of stores, jewelry, cafes, restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs. It is a remarkable town, both for its panoramic location and for the beauty of its streets, which include a network of lanes that crisscross the city and provide breathtaking vistas.
  • Museum of Prehistoric Thira

    21 minsAdmission Ticket Not Included
The Museum of Prehistoric Thera was constructed on the site of the former Ypapanti Church, which was devastated in the 1956 earthquake on Amorgos. It displays a huge collection of ancient objects from excavations on Santorini, including Akrotiri and the neighboring Potamos site. The Museum spans the island's history from the Late Neolithic to the Late Cycladic I periods. Akrotiri's history dates back to 3300 B.C., and the city thrived in particular during the mature Late Cycladic I era (17th century B.C. ); relics from this time are abundantly exhibited. Ceramics, sculptures, jewelry, wall paintings, and ceremonial artifacts are among the items in the collections, which are organized chronologically. The colossal art of wall painting is vividly depicted. The complicated network of links between the island and the outside world is also discussed. The Museum displays Neolithic pottery from the island as well as Early Cycladic marble figures and pottery.
  • Candlemas Holy Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of Thira

    21 minsAdmission Ticket Free
Candlemas Day The Holy Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral stands boldly towards the bottom of Fira and can be seen from afar and from various places of Santorini. The church was erected in 1827 and provides an excellent view of the caldera and volcano. The structure was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1956, but it was quickly restored. It's a lovely cathedral with an attractive mosaic on the façade and a bell tower. A tranquil courtyard is created by rolling arches. The inside of the church is embellished with exquisite frescoes created by local artist Christoforos Asimis.
