If you fly into Hokkaido via domestic like I did, then you need to walk over to the International terminal. Depending on the number of luggage you have (especially during Winter) it can be a real pain in the rear. Also, you cannot control when the luggage will arrive at the hotel. Therefore you need to pack in a way that you have all the important clothings with you. In my case, I had to pack my entire family’s winter clothes with me as we took the JR line to Sapporo. It’s still a very useful feature nonetheless because dragging your family luggage into JR trains (especially non-reserve seats) is the worst imaginable way to start your Hokkaido holiday.
