We start driving the scenic Transfagarasan road in the morning and head to its iconic high-altitude landscapes. The winding road takes us to the highest point (2,042 meters), to the beautiful glacial Balea Lake (2,034 meters) and to Capra Waterfall, our final point. Built during the communist regime, Transfagarasan was considered a strategic road between Transylvania and Southern Romania. Its overwhelming landscapes have transformed it, however, into one of the most important tourist attractions of Romania. Crossing the highest part of the Carpathians, the construction of the Transfagarasan required an enormous amount of work and planning.
