Immerse yourself in the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand's South Island on
this two-day adventure. From the majestic fjords of Milford Sound to the
rugged coastlines and ancient forests of the Catlins, experience a diverse
range of natural wonders. Explore the glacial valleys of Fiordland National
Park, cruise through the iconic Milford Sound, and uncover the hidden
treasures of the southern coast.
Day 1: Queenstown to Milford Sound – Te Anau
Our journey begins in Queenstown, heading into the heart of Fiordland National
Park. The road to Milford Sound is a destination in itself, winding through
lush farmland, past shimmering lakes and tussock-covered flats, and into the
breathtakingly steep, U-shaped valleys carved by ancient glaciers.
Feel the landscape grow wilder as the sound of rushing water intensifies.
After rainfall, the park awakens with cascading waterfalls and the thunderous
roar of nature. We'll traverse the Homer Tunnel, a Depression-era engineering
feat that opened Milford Sound to the world.
Experience the majesty of this natural wonder – voted one of the seven scenic
wonders of the world – on a captivating boat cruise. Afterwards, stretch your
legs with short walks to further explore the area before settling into your
comfortable accommodations in Te Anau.
Day 2: Te Anau to Catlins – Otago Peninsula
Bidding farewell to Fiordland, we venture towards the rugged southern coast,
stopping in Riverton to visit the award-winning Te Hikoi Museum. Bypassing
Invercargill and Bluff (the gateway to Stewart Island), we'll take the scenic
Catlins Coastal Heritage Trail, showcasing the southernmost tip of mainland
New Zealand.
Discover the ancient secrets of Curio Bay, where fossilized forests meet the
sea. Enjoy a delightful lunch before continuing to the majestic Papatowai
waterfalls, perfect for a refreshing walk. As we head north, take in the
stunning views of the Taieri River Mouth and a spectacular coastal drive to
your overnight accommodation on the Otago Peninsula or in Dunedin.
This unforgettable two-day adventure showcases the diverse landscapes and
