Toshitsune Maeda, the 3rd lord of the Kaga Clan, built the incense burning pavilion, 3-story pagoda, the bell tower, the study room. Magnificent scenery of strangely formed rocks that are said to be the remains from ancient volcanic eruptions undersea is a must-see. Eiheiji is one of two head temples of the Soto Sect of Zen Buddhism. The temple complex consists of over 70 buildings and structures which are connected to each other by covered walkways that protect from the heavy snow seen in the region from December to March.
