Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine
Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine and its Cultural Landscape is a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage site.
Flourishing from the 16th century to 20th century, its silver was exported globally, and it is said it produced one-third of the world's silver in the 17th century. This significantly boosted the cultural and economical development in East Asia.
This area still preserves its historical townscapes of the middle ages, and shows the coexistence of human industrial activities and nature.
Ryugenji Mine Shaft
This tunnel is open to the public year-round. You can see traces of its 230 years of use and how it was dug by hand.
Izumo Oyashiro Shrine
The Izumo Oyashiro Shrine is one of the most famous Shrines in Japan, and was built in the ancient times. It is already written in a book from the early 8th century. It is said that the original structure was almost 96 meters high, and taller than the Great Buddha Hall at Todaiji Temple in Nara! The current main architecture was completed renovation in 1744. Feel the long-lasting history here!
Adachi Museum of Art
Visitors can enjoy the different views at different seasons. This Japanese garden has been selected as the best Japanese garden in Japan for 22 years long by garden magazine published in almost 40 countries. You will be impressed by the Japanese garden in harmony with nature! This museum has a large collection of Japanese-style paintings, especially works by Taikan Yokoyama, one of the best modern painters.
Matsue Castle
Matsue Castle is a Japanese National Treasure, and remains the original wooden structure built in 1607. Samurai residences can be found around the castle. From the castle's summit, visitors can enjoy view of the city and the surrounding natural landscape. You could feel like a lord of the land!
