El pueblo de San José de Maipo is the main urban center of the commune. Located 48 km from the city of Santiago de Chile, at an altitude of 970 meters above sea level, following the route G-25 Camino al Volcán, on the banks of the Maipo River. Its historic center has been declared a National Monument8​, notable for its colonial constructions. In this town you can find all the main services of the community, such as the Alcaldía, the local police court, the municipal library, etc.
