Gassho-zukuri means "constructed like hands in prayer", as the farmhouses' steep thatched roofs resemble the hands pressed together in prayer. The houses are still lived in and maintained by local people. Some of these traditional houses are also used for accommodation, as well as museums. To understand just how adapted the village is for life in the mountains, we recommend that you visit one the museums, such as Wada House. * All the museums need admission fee from 300JPY to 600JPY.
