Hidden Kerry: The Waterfall Trail & The Eagle’s Lake
Hidden Kerry: The Waterfall Trail & The Eagle’s Lake
Evening Walk
For KrisFlyer members only
Highlights
Escape the ordinary and ascend into the rugged soul of the Dunkerron Mountains. This journey follows the path of ancient glaciers into a landscape where "wild" is the only way to describe the views.
The Journey
Rise above the everyday to the thundering 130m Coomanassig Waterfall before finding sanctuary by the dark, obsidian waters of Eagle’s Lake. Here, you’ll stand beneath 260m towering corrie cliffs, a breathtaking geological masterpiece carved by time.
Into the Wild
Leaving the marked trails behind, we traverse open moorland to witness Kerry’s true inhabitants. Keep your eyes sharp for mountain goats, hares, ravens, and the majestic White-Tailed Sea Eagle. Your reward? 360-degree vistas of Kenmare Bay and the jagged Caha Mountains.
Essential Info
This authentic mountain trek includes rising paths and off-trail sections. To safely enjoy this wilderness, waterproof hiking boots with good soles are essential.

Sneem
3 hoursAdmission Ticket FreeWe’ll meet at Álaind Lodges at 11 am before continuing by car to the start of the trail. Today’s walk brings us up close to the spectacular Dunkerron Mountains. Waterproof boots with good soles are required. We'll be ascending the stone path towards Knocknagantee mountain before branching off to find the beautiful Coomanassig waterfall and Eagles Lake. Along the way we’ll pick our way around the rocky outcrops which were left behind by ice age glaciers. We’ll walk right up to the waterfall and cliff walls by skirting around the edge of the dark water lake. Coomanassig waterfall is 130 metres tall and the cliffs themselves are 250 metres tall. We’ll spend about 30 mins here (weather depending), a good opportunity to enjoy any snacks/refreshment you bring.
