Highlights
Experience the story of the Great Irish Famine, also known as the Irish Potato Famine or Great Hunger – a devastating period of mass starvation, disease, emigration and death in 19th-century Ireland.
View original artefacts including historic newspaper reports, a personal letter from the era, and a famine soup pot that bring the human reality of the tragedy to life.
Follow the epic story of Irish emigration as millions left their homeland for new lives in Canada, America, Britain and Australia, shaping the global Irish diaspora.
Unlike larger general history museums in Dublin, this exhibition offers a more intimate and focused exploration of one of the most defining events in Irish history.
Allow around one hour to explore the illustrated panels and watch a 15-minute documentary overview. A high-quality book on the famine is also available to purchase.
This temporary exhibition aims to help inspire a permanent Irish Famine museum in Dublin.

Learn about the mass emigration that followed, a story also explored in other Dublin attractions such as EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship and Famine Museum. Guests may also choose to sit and watch a 15-minute documentary overview film explaining the causes, events, and global impact of the famine. Along the way, see moving artefacts including historic newspaper reports, a personal letter from a father to his son, and a famine soup pot once used to feed starving families. A high-quality book about the Irish Famine is also available to purchase as a meaningful souvenir or gift to bring home.
