A stunning V-shaped gorge in northern Miyazaki, Takachiho Gorge was formed by

This shrine is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. According to legend,
she hid in a cave here after being angered by her brother’s actions, plunging
the world into darkness. Other deities gathered in the riverside cave
Amanoyasukawara to devise a plan, eventually coaxing her out with a dance.
Visitors can explore the spiritual East Main Hall, the mythical cave (West
Hall, with advance application), and walk the serene forest trail to
Amanoyasukawara—the sacred gathering site of the deities.
