Powered paragliding is a personal recreational aircraft that uses an engine to
fly in the sky, combining a paraglider and an engine power unit. Throughout
the activity, an instructor accompanies the participant and controls the
direction, while the participant simply enjoys the beautiful aerial views.
Based on factors such as weather and wind direction, we need to confirm
whether takeoff is possible and the specific takeoff address before 9:00 AM on
the day of the experience. If takeoff is canceled due to unfavorable wind
direction or other factors on the day of the experience, you can choose to
reschedule or receive a refund. If a day is confirmed to be canceled, we will
contact you in advance to request a rescheduling or refund.
Session schedule: Morning sessions & Afternoon sessions. Sessions are at 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, and 15:00. We will confirm the meeting time with you before 9:00 AM on the day of the event.
Location: The departure point is usually located in, but not limited to, the following addresses: Nakajo City, Uruma City (Urumashi) or Yomitan Village (Momenhara Beach), in an area about 40-60 minutes' drive from Naha City. The location will be adjusted according to the wind direction on the day. We will confirm the detailed meeting point with you before 9:00 a.m. on the day of departure.
Time: Total time is about 1 hour, and the aerial experience lasts about 10 minutes.
Regarding pick-up and drop-off: Pick-up and drop-off services are not currently provided. Please make your own way and arrive at the flight location 10 minutes in advance.
-Frequently Asked Questions-
Q: How safe is paragliding?
A: Paragliding has undergone more than 30 years of development and several
technological upgrades, with a complete set of testing and inspection
standards. If the wing breaks in turbulence, it can automatically recover
within seconds. There is a 15cm thick layer of foam or a 30cm thick airbag for
cushioning under the seat, and a spare parachute as a last resort for self-
rescue. It can be said that modern paragliding equipment is very mature and
safe.
Q: I saw other paragliders flying very high, but my instructor didn't take me
flying high. Why is that?
A: Paragliders are unpowered aircraft and cannot climb to any altitude like
airplanes. They must rely on rising thermals to ascend, but these thermals are
intermittent, with each one having a different diameter, speed, and peak
altitude. Those paragliders that reach exceptionally high altitudes are lucky
enough to catch a strong thermal. Therefore, although instructors want to fly
high, the altitude of each flight is unpredictable.
Q: What do I need to do in cooperation with the coach?
A: Takeoff is the only phase where you absolutely must cooperate with the
instructor. First, you must wear suitable running shoes. When the instructor
says "Run, run, run" behind you, you must run forward with long strides until
both feet leave the ground and you are out of the takeoff area boundary.
Often, passengers are too scared to run and end up sitting on the ground;
other times, due to the strong wind during parachute deployment, passengers
are temporarily airborne, sit down, and then touch the ground again a moment
later. Both of these situations must be avoided, because once a passenger sits
down and doesn't run, the instructor won't have the strength to pull them back
up, and takeoff will fail. At best, both passengers will fall to the ground;
at worst, they will tumble down a slope several meters. Remember, during
takeoff, do everything you can to keep your feet down, even if you are
temporarily airborne, be prepared to run again until you are out of the
takeoff area boundary!
Q: Can I bring a camera or phone to take pictures myself?
A: We strongly discourage bringing your own camera for taking photos and
videos, as it may be damaged due to falls or other reasons. If you must take
photos, you can use your mobile phone (bring your own selfie stick). Please be
sure to tie the camera to the bag or hang it around your neck with a rope. The
club is not responsible for any damage or loss.
