The museum was established in the former KGB building, where the crimes of the Soviet regime were planned and executed for fifty years. Visitors can visit: the former KGB prison, the premises where death sentences were implemented, modern exhibitions telling about the loss of independence in the middle of the 20th century, repressions by Soviet authorities, and the self-sacrificing and persistent fight for independence. We will walk in the former prison where political prisoners were kept and tortured. You will see where and how they were killed. One chamber of 19 is dedicated to jewish Holocaust, because 1941-1944 the buiding was used as the German Gestapo and SD headquarters and a prison, barracks of the Sonderkommando of the city of Vilnius, which killed Jews and others. At 2018 September Pope Francis ended his visit in Lithuania at KGB museum and prayed for the victims of the Soviet regime in Lithuania.
