Highlights
Yue Fei Temple, also known as Yue Temple, is located on the southern slope of Qixia Ridge by West Lake. It was originally built in the 14th year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1221) and first named “Baozhong Yanfu Chan Temple.” During the Ming Dynasty, it was granted the title “Zhonglie Temple.” After Yue Fei was posthumously titled King of E, the temple became known as Yue Fei Temple. The current layout, reconstructed during the Qing Dynasty, is divided into three parts: the cemetery, Zhonglie Hall, and Qizhong Hall. The cemetery faces east, while Zhonglie Hall and Qizhong Hall face south. The main gate of Yue Fei Temple faces Yue Lake, one of the five major waters of West Lake. Between the tomb and the lake stands the “Bixue Danxin” stone arch, symbolizing the nation’s respect for the patriotic hero. Yue Fei’s tomb (and temple) is now a nationally protected cultural relic.
