Bundala National Park is situated 251km Southeast of Colombo,near to the Hambantota city in Southern Province of Sri Lanka.The Park is internationally recognize as a wintering ground for migratory aquatic birds in Sri Lanka.September to March is best time to visit because in this period migratory birds are reached to the park.Among 200 species of birds are recorded,out of them 58 species are migratory birds in the park, Marsh and Curlew Sandpiper, Curlew and Greenshank Golden and Kentish Plover, Large and Lesser Sandplovers.Greater Flamingo is the famous migratory bird. Bundala Park shelters to 32 speciet of mammals. There are civets, wild boars, Grey & Ruddy mongoose, porcupine, giant Indian palm squirrels, black-naped hares, Spotted Deer, Wild buffalo. It has a small population of elephants in between 25-60 depending on the season. There are some reptiles live in park such as crocodile & mugger crocodile. In the beach area the marine turtle species come on shore to lay eggs during October & January. The visitors can discover egg laying turtles at night, certainly this amazing scenario became as a unforgettable memory in visitors heart.
