Learning to make wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) is a wonderful way to experience Japanese culture and create creations rooted in centuries of history and tradition. Made with simple ingredients (white bean paste and glutinous rice flour), wagashi can be enjoyed by vegans and vegetarians alike! In this wagashi-making class, you'll learn how to make nerikiri, one of the highest quality wagashi, typically used in the tea ceremony. First, you'll learn how to make the dough from scratch. Next, you'll color the dough in delicate colors and then create beautiful decorative flowers from the dough. Finally, you'll shape the dough into balls and garnish with decorative flowers. This process requires some skill, but you'll be incredibly satisfied when you finish. Don't forget to take photos of your beautiful wagashi before eating it. You can eat it there or take it away!
