At Hacienda de Corralejo, step into a grand colonial estate. Learn about the artisanal process of tequila-making with a guided tour through the active distillery. Stroll through a museum dedicated to the rich history of tequila, browse unique local goods at the charming gift shop, and enjoy a traditional Mexican meal at the estate’s on-site restaurant.
Next, journey to the Plazuelas Archaeological Zone, one of Guanajuato’s most important pre-Hispanic sites. Walk among stone-paved plazas, admire petroglyphs carved into rock, and stand in awe before structures like the Plaza of the Columns and the enigmatic Pyramid of the Sun—a true window into Mexico’s ancestral past.
Itinerary
Hacienda Corralejo
2 hours 20 minsAdmission Ticket FreeThe Hacienda de Corralejo is a historic estate located in the municipality of Penjamo, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. The hacienda was established in the late 18th century, during the colonial period, and was primarily used for the production of agave and the distillation of tequila. The hacienda has a long and storied history, and was at one time owned by the famous revolutionary hero, Miguel Hidalgo, who used it as a base for his insurgent army during the Mexican War of Independence. The hacienda was later acquired by the Sauza family, who transformed it into one of the largest and most successful tequila distilleries in Mexico. Today, the Hacienda de Corralejo is a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a chance to explore the beautiful grounds, tour the tequila distillery, and learn about the history and traditions of tequila production in Mexico. The hacienda also features a restaurant, a gift shop, and a museum dedicated to the history of tequila.Zona Archeologica Plazuelas
2 hours 20 minsAdmission Ticket Not IncludedThe Zona Arqueologica Plazuelas is an ancient Mesoamerican archaeological site located in Pénjamo, Guanajuato. The Plazuelas site dates back to the Pre-Columbian period, and was inhabited by several different indigenous groups, including the Chupicuaro, the Olmec-Xicalanca, and the Tarascan people. The site is known for its large public plaza, which features several impressive structures, including pyramids, temples, and palaces, as well as a series of ball courts and an intricate system of canals and aqueducts. The site was first discovered in the 1960s, and has since been the subject of numerous archaeological investigations and restoration efforts. Today, visitors can explore the site and its impressive structures, including the Pyramid of the Sun and the Plaza of the Columns, which feature intricate stone carvings and other decorative elements. The Zona Arqueologica Plazuelas was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.Bodegón de la Dolce Vita
2 hours 20 minsAdmission Ticket FreeLocated within the grounds of the historic Hacienda Corralejo in Guanajuato, Bodegón de la Dolce Vita is a distinctive space that forms part of the immersive tequila experience offered by the Corralejo distillery. Far from a traditional restaurant, this “bodegón” functions as a cellar-like exhibition area where visitors can admire vintage bottles, handcrafted barrels, and a curated selection of tequilas that reflect the legacy of the house. The space is designed to evoke the spirit of old-world charm, a nod to the global appreciation of tequila and fine spirits. Visitors can stroll through its corridors to appreciate the artistry behind Corralejo’s production, often paired with tastings or exclusive experiences that celebrate both the heritage and innovation of the brand. Whether as part of a guided tour or a stand-alone visit, the place invites guests to dive deeper into the culture, aesthetics, and passion that define Corralejo tequila.
