Step aboard the Sagano Romantic Train for an unforgettable 7.3-kilometre ride through the heart of Kyoto’s natural beauty, connecting the serene towns of Arashiyama and Kameoka. This nostalgic mine cart-style railway winds through mountains, river valleys, and forests, offering an intimate view of Japan’s seasonal splendour like no other.
In the spring, be captivated by a glowing tunnel of over 700 cherry blossom trees in full bloom. Summer reveals a lush, green landscape, while autumn ignites the route with fiery reds and golds during Kyoto’s famous koyo (fall foliage) season. As you glide past historical landmarks and forested trails, the gentle pace and open-air design of the train let you truly immerse yourself in nature’s transitions.
Whether you depart from Saga or Kameoka, booking your one-way ticket in advance ensures a smooth and memorable ride, especially during peak times like Golden Week and autumn leaf season. Aboard the Sagano Romantic Train, every season becomes a moving masterpiece.

👍🏻 Easy to book on pelago, love the convenience that they sent the pdf through WhatsApp. Don't need to exchange for physical tickets, just scan your QR code on the way out (after the ride) and you're done!
Smooth and easy booking process. Tickets will be issued within 10min so take note!
Very easy to use without any need to redeem or queue on the day. The feature to change seat was also easy to understand and do.
It was effortless using the voucher. We didn’t have to exchange it for a ticket but just board the train in the reserved seating car. The journey was scenic and a must visit if you are in Arashiyama.
Very enjoyable ride as scenery is beautiful even without sakura. Easy to redeem ride just click on the link received to show train staff. Great customer service from Pelago. Sent an enquiry and received a reply within half an hour even though it was a weekend.
I was afraid of being confused when I arrive but the Sagano train station is outside of the main JR station so it was super easy to identify and enter. Friendly staff stationed around will help you if need be, but I quickly showed my e-ticket on my smartphone to the attendants at the platform entrance and was directed to my car. I found my seat and really enjoyed the experience! The scenery was fanatastic even during summer and absolutely gorge-geous. I loved how the train staff would give running intro (even though I didn't understand most of it) but it would help with the mood. Great value for such an experience!
