This 6 day safari combines gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest with a wildlife safari in Murchison Falls National Park. The trip starts with a visit to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area home to a wide range of flora and fauna. Wild animals that can be seen in this park include some of the big five such as elephants, buffaloes and lions; as well as giraffes, antelopes, crocodiles, hippos etc. The trip takes you further through the Albertine Rift to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to more than half of the remaining total population of the mountain gorillas. Head off to Murchison Falls National Park starting in Kampala via Bombo road that should take you about 5 hours. On your way, you will see the legendary Luweero triangle, today is a small town with a trading center recognized for its agonizing past during Obote’s regime. Continue and branch off at Masindi Hotel for lunch. You will pass through Budongo forest and Kaniyo Pabidi. When you reach the park, drive directly to the Top of the falls, such a pretty site for appreciating the mighty River Nile and the most powerful rush of water anywhere in the world behind. Take an early morning breakfast, head to the park office headquarters with packed lunch for an inevitable briefing ready to trek for the gorillas in the thick impenetrable forests. You get to spend an hour with the gorillas after having trekked for about 3-5 hours. If you are still energetic, in the evening, head for a brief nature walk to the Batwa community. Also available are curio shops, drinking joints, a children’s school among others. You can try the other option being Munyanja river trail, where you can see the waterfalls and an array of bird life or the Muzabajiro/ Ruhija trails which offer forest and grassland bird species plus more primates.
