The climb went well. A day prior to the climb, I visited the company’s office to get fitted for crampons and other equipment. Although the listing for the activity notes that personal clothing will not be provided, the company loaned me a pair of climbing pants and winter jacket at no extra charge. They also provided a helmet, crampons, climbing boots and an ice axe. I brought my own gloves but they offered a pair as well if I wanted one. On the day of the climb, the bus arrived punctually at my hotel for pick-up. The main announcements were made only in Spanish as all of the other participants on that trip were Spanish speakers. However, the lead guide could communicate in English and shared key instructions with me in English. The climb itself was conducted in a professional manner with 1 guide to every 3 participants. Upon reaching the snow line, they grouped us according to hiking speed and regularly checked that all climbers were doing well. The guides were very encouraging and all participants on the tour managed to summit Mateo.
