Highlights
Whizz through Bangkok on a tuk-tuk, a small, open-air, three-wheeled vehicle that's great for sightseeing. Visit Phra Sumeru Fortress on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is the largest of two remaining fortresses built during the reign of King Rama I. Continue on a tuk-tuk to City Pillar Shrine. Built by King Rama I to mark the new capital, Bangkok, it has a reputation of granting wishes – so be careful what you wish for!
Drive around The Giant Swing, an unusual 200-year-old red swing outside Wat Suthat, used in Brahmanic ceremonies to honour the highest God Shiva. Finish the day at Wat Saket, or The Golden Mount, where you’ll climb up 318 steps to a panoramic viewpoint. At the top, soak up phenomenal 360-degree views of Rattanakosin Island, a historic area bordered by the Chao Phraya River.
